The movie documentary Awake: The Life of Yogananda will be showing in Toronto, in early December.


Yogananda is the Author of the famous book Autobiography of a Yogi Selected as "One of the 100 Best Spiritual Books of the Twentieth Century".

Autobiography of a Yogi has been translated into more than 30 languages, and is regarded worldwide as a classic of religious literature. Several million copies have been sold, and it continues to appear on best-seller lists after more than sixty consecutive years in print. 

Autobiography of a Yogi has inspired many around the world including Steve Jobs, co-founder, former chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. Copies of this book was handed to all those who attended his funeral. 

Horticulturist Luther Burbank, operatic soprano Amelita Galli-Curci, George Eastman (inventor of the Kodak camera), poet Edwin Markham, and symphony conductor Leopald Stokowski. 

In 1927, he was officially received at the White House by President Calvin Coolidge, who had become interested as a result of newspaper accounts of his activities. George Harrison of the Beatles was significantly influenced by Yogananda, and Yogananda's image appears on the cover of the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Swami’s beach in Encinitas is named in honor of this great spiritual leader.
